Community Garden

Here at Crofthead Farm we have substantial Community Gardens providing spaces to relax, grow and educate.

Previously managed by Mental Health Scotland as a sensory garden, it fell into disrepair after they left Crofthead and was turning into a wilderness by early 2022.

Our dedicated team of volunteers now maintain the gardens, and have made great progress getting the gardens back to a pleasant and productive space which now hosts a polytunnel and greenhouse for bringing on young or tender plants, 30+ raised beds used to grow food for the West Lothian Foodbank, our own beehives and a calming seating area among the trees and shrubs for visitors.

Obviously we shouldn’t forget our resident chickens in the Chicken Palace! We currently have 4 Scots Dumpies pecking their way through as much corn and veg as they can find, in a coop built by West Lothian College students, with timber kindly donated by MGM Timber.

There’s always work to be done, and we welcome volunteers in any capacity, from horticulture to mowing and groundworks.

The Gardens are also an ideal place for outdoor activity and education, and we are fortunate to have pupils from the nearby Cedarbank School helping out and working through various envirnomental and horticulture courses.

If you have an interest in helping out and meeting our friendly team of gardeners, or would like to learn more about gardening please get in touch.
